all she ever wanted was to belong,
you told her, “you’re family”, then left her.
she thought it was genuine,
she thought someone finally cared.
and then you excluded her,
planned things without her,
talked about her even when she was around,
laughed when she was being serious.
she believed in your words when she should’ve known better,
perhaps her expectations were too much.
she talked about it because she trusted you,
yet you didn’t try to understand.
they say communication is key,
maybe you thought of it as a joke.
friends don’t do that,
and maybe she wasn’t really yours.
making her put up walls again,
trust broken again and again.
she knows you’d laugh if you knew,
you’ll think she’s sensitive and say it wasn’t true.
she’s choosing silence now and keeping her distance,
until she eventually stops caring, too.
she only wanted real connection,
to be with someone she can call a friend.
but friends don’t do that,
so she won’t be one to you.
